How do I use WS_FTP to upload my website?

WS_FTP is a commercial FTP client. Once installed, you can follow the steps below to connect to your hosting account and upload your website.

  1. From the 'File' menu select 'Connect', then select 'Connection Wizard'.
  2. Select FTP as the 'Connection Type'.
  3. Enter 'ftp.example.com' (replace example.com with your domain name) into the 'Server Address' field.
  4. In the 'User Name' field enter your account's username and domain name in the format of 'username@example.com'.
  5. Enter your account's password in the 'Password' field.
  6. Click the 'Advanced' button and click on 'Startup'
  7. Enter '/var/www/html' in the 'Remote Site Folder' field.
  8. Click 'OK', then 'Finish'.
  9. Select the files you want to publish from the left hand side of the screen and click on the green arrow pointing to the right hand side to upload the files.
If you wish to upload CGI scripts to the account just enter '/var/www' as the 'Remote Site Folder' at step 7. Then when uploading files, place the CGI scripts in the cgi-bin directory and the HTML files in the html directory.
