How do I transfer my domain name to PlugSocket?
If you would like to transfer your domain name from another provider to PlugSocket so that it is under our control and we would bill you for renewals in the future, then it would depend on what extension the domain name has, as to how to go about it.
If you wish to keep your domain with your existing provider but use our hosting service, then you can just ask your existing provider to change the nameservers (sometimes referred to as DNS) on the domain to ns1.plugsocket.com and ns2.plugsocket.com (you may have a control panel through which you can do this yourself). This means that you will continue to pay domain renewal fees to your existing provider. Just changing the nameservers is a quicker way to start using our hosting, with the exception of .uk domains that can be transferred just as quickly.
.uk domains
To transfer a .uk domain to us, you would need to ask your current providers to change the TAG for the domain to PLUGSOCKET (all capital letters) (you may have a control panel through which you can do this yourself). We would not charge you a fee to do this, but some providers may make a charge to change the TAG for your domain. If you are transferring a .uk domain to us for use with our domain management services and do not wish to use our hosting services, then please contact us first, so that we are aware that the domain will be arriving.
.com, .net, .org, .info and .biz domains
If you have a .com, .net, .org, .info or a .biz domain that you wish to transfer to us, then it would cost £9.99 + VAT and it would include the renewal of the domain for a further year which would be added to the expiry date upon completion of the transfer (your existing domain name provider may also make a charge, so you would need to check with them about that, but not all of them do).
You would need to ask your existing provider to unlock the domain and give you the EPP key (Auth code). You would also need to make sure that the admin email address for the domain is valid and one which will approve the transfer, if not this would need to be updated before requesting the transfer. Alternatively, if you would like us to deal with the transfer emails for you, you could get the admin email address for the domain changed to support@plugsocket.com. You may have a control panel through which you can do all of these things yourself or otherwise you will need to contact your current provider. When these things have been done, please send us an email (or use our contact form) for a link through which to pay.
Once you have paid, we would initiate the transfer, and the admin contact for the domain would need to respond to any emails received regarding the transfer (or forward relevant emails to yourself to respond to).
The whole process usually takes about 5 - 10 days, but may take longer in some cases, so you need to allow plenty of time before the expiry date.
Please note that you will not be able to transfer a .com, .net, .org, .info or a .biz domain until at least 60 days after the initial registration date or until at least 60 days after a Registrar transfer.
